street views Heard about it months ago, if not a couple years. Google adding street views to their maps. Using 360-degree cameras mounted on vans that drive and record all that they see on any given street. And then adding those views to their satellite maps. The controversy was about unsuspecting citizens finding themselves recorded for posterity, or internet posterity anyway, without their permission or even knowledge. Law basically said, "Tough. As long as they're recording public views from public thoroughfares, they don't need permission." Never played with it, though. No "Street Views" on any place I bother to check. No more. Kinda cool. If a little blurry, and quite slow. Cumbersome if you're wanting to check lots of places, and don't feel like wandering slowly down the streets to do it. But the Mongolian Grill the kids took us to? There it is. Yeah, you can see that, too. Not to mention other interesting places. And, of course, it's not just for checking places you've been. It's more so for seeing places you haven't been. A big fan of Little People, Big World? Here's the driveway to the Roloff's farm. I can tell this will be another time filler for those nights when reflux won't let me sleep. |
