ripples in the desert A small pond in the desert, earlier this month. In other news... It is normal for at least half the pronghorn and mule deer fawns born each spring to die before the end of summer. In fact, the first month of life is usually the most difficult, most lethal. But still... A third antelope fawn at the ranch just north of town on Sunday. And now a deer fawn in town, at Tina's place. She and I looked for it Monday afternoon, with no success. And now, here it is, dead, right where we were looking. And the warden wasn't available because she was taking care of a pronghorn doe that died in town, too. Yeah. Losses in the summer are natural and expected. But finding so many in such a short period? Well, we just went to the disease workshop a couple weeks ago. You know what we're thinkin'. |
