stopping through the dunes Photos from my second BBS route: Stop 1: the start.
The first of 50 3-minute counts.
Stop 14: Two birds on the count. The duller, but louder, one on the left is a sage thrasher. One of the "top five" species in this route, being found on most stops. The black and white one is a lark bunting, more of a grassland species. Some years they show up in abundance, but this wasn't one of those. But some years they aren't seen here at all.
Stop 16:
By Stop 28: Yes, they're here, too. Interesting thing... the oil field I have to pass through for stops 11 through 13? All the well pumps were turned off. When oil prices were at an all-time high. And an apparent all-time scarcity...

The beaver ponds I was so happy to see two years ago are gone.
Blown out by the high flows this spring. No idea what happened to the beaver, but they're not rebuilding. And someone's streambed transect is about to lose its endpoint marker post...
