beware the 14th Oh, the joys of working leks in the gas field: Drill rigs glistening in the sun's first rays. Desert rims glowing warmly in the dawn's first light behind condensate tanks. And of course, the plumes of black smoke from flared waste pits. Probably illegally. The grouse were still there, though. On two of the three leks. They abandoned the first long ago, when the wells first came in. Had planned on checking three additional leks this morning, but those plans changed right after I shot that photo. Kinda hard (and unwise) to run across the desert with antifreeze spraying out from the bottom of your radiator. Had to use the heelers' drinking water to get us back to the interstate. Truck gets a new radiator first thing tomorrow morning. Which means we get to sleep in... |
