neither a strike nor spare It's got to be my worst scores in what, 15-20 years? That's my game on the top line, and in the bottom. 88. And then 70. And not a single spare or strike in the second game. Can you believe that? I think I went two decades without bowling before we went out with the Cubs, and even then I'm sure I broke 90. The wife says I'm being too hard on myself. After all... I was bowling left-handed. But that's just it... It shouldn't make any difference. Left hand, right hand, or shoving it with your foot, it shouldn't make any difference. Bowling is just a matter of sending the ball down the lane at the right angle with enough velocity to send the pins scattering. Still, even with my handicap, we beat the women. Both games. It was a good time, despite the squeals of the five teenaged girls having a birthday party in the next lane. Which is why we were there in the first place, since the parents of said birthday girl wanted some adult company to keep them sane through the evening. Me, I had no idea what to buy a 14-year old girl. But the wife, as usual, came up with the perfect gift. An i-Tunes gift card. Birthday girl was thrilled. Conservative, protective parents... less so. Have you ever heard the tradition of having birthday guests sign the celebrant's bowling ball in metallic-ink pen? Or is that just here? |
