a day of rest

The boss seemed surprised when I told him how much I was looking forward to it.

Two hours of driving, listening to music. Then trying to stay awake through the meeting all day, and enjoying the peaceful, smooth, uneventful two-hour drive home.

And that's how it was. Restful.

Tomorrow I'm back on the snowmachine, back on the Rim.

Got no photo, of course, but on the drive up, I saw a horse trailer with an interesting label...

You know how public bathrooms are labeled "Restroom" with either the international symbol of a man or woman (or both)?

This trailer was also labeled "RESTROOM".

With a symbol of a quarterhorse below.

Saw this on the way home. Not sure when they lost the second letter of their ranch's name,

But I suspect somebody did it on purpose.

While giving the heelers a break by the horse corrals before heading off to the Gannett for a huge hamburger lunch, I spotted what at first looked to be a piece of trash.

And noticed it was a large zip-lock bag.

With a dead rodent in it.

A dead, partially mummified rodent.

With a collection tag attached.

Sometime during the winter, someone with the initials "LC" lost one of their scientific collections and now, with the snow almost all gone in this Banana Belt, here it lay.

I took it in to the front desk and handed it to my younger twin. Said maybe she could find its owner.

She was not pleased. Certainly not at lunchtime.

Certainly not since the bag had a big tear in it.

She left it in the mail room, hoping the owner would claim it.

It was still there after lunch.

I think maybe I better bring her something nice next time I'm in town.

Maybe chocolate...

And finally,

A false touch of warmth in a cold world.
