no unnecessary travel

I check the road advisories:

"No unnecessary travel" it says. Not surprising. The interstate is closed, so the secondary highways aren't likely to be much better.

For me, that would be enough. I rarely consider a meeting to be "necessary".

But just to be sure, I call one of my wardens.

Craaap, they're already 30 miles down that nearly-closed highway.

"It's fine."

"It's just blowing snow."

And true enough, the roadbed was cold and dry. The only hazard the wind and blowing snow.

As I near Home on the Range, I spy these:

and have to wonder...

On days like this, during winters like this, do you think any of those "wild" horses would be willing to trade a lifetime of freedom for a shed, a blanket, and all the hay you could want every day?

The drive home?

Not much different.

Except for the long, icy patches. And drifts creeping in on the road.
