line transect training Twenty-one of us in the room. One teaching, the others there to learn. Two female, others male. Four bosses, all the others biologists. Two new. One a boss, the other a bio. About half with laptops, the rest with desktops, or just peering over someone else's shoulder. The best part of the day? Comparing desktop photos on everyone's machines. The winner? A tie between the two guys who had the same photo from their bighorn sheep hunt last fall. Incredible place, just outside Yellowstone. When the instructor made reference to an antiquated software program, he remarked that half the room had probably never heard of it. (Anybody out there remember "Enable"? The precursor to Microsoft Office?) At the break, one fellow made mention of that. And it suddenly occurred to him... "When you're gone, I'll be the oldest biologist!" He was surprised. And not happy with the prospect. Yeah. It sneaks up on you like that. A few shots from the drive up: |
