grousin' about snow

I know it's just grousing, but still...

Spent almost two hours shoveling snow this afternoon. Which I can't complain about too much, because I enjoy shoveling snow.

It's good exercise.

The trick is to not overdress for the weather. If you're comfortable standing out there in the snow and wind, you're wearing too much. You gotta dress as light as you can, to make you keep moving.

Having a game warden pull up and want to chat, with you standing there in shirt sleeves and a light vest whilst he sits inside the cab of his warm truck with the heater running, in his heavy winter coat, well, that quickly puts the chill on.

But that's not what was botherin' me.

What was bothering me was our neighbors' neatly plowed driveway.

"Plowed" as in, one of the town maintenance guys stopped his street plowing to drop the blade in their half of our shared driveway, and pull the snow out.

But our half of the driveway?

Now, if he had just left all the snow where it lay, I wouldn't be too upset. Folks next door have been retired for over 15 years, and it takes them quite a while to shovel their walks these days.

I got no problem with the maintenance folk using town equipment to help out our seniors.

But I do have a problem with them plowing a dense, five to six-foot wide berm of snow in front of our half of the driveway.

I walked the block. Everybody else's driveway had the snow neatly removed right to the curb line.

Except us.

We got snow piled up in front of our driveway.

And it's happened before.

I just gotta wonder if it has anything to do with me turning in the head maintenance guy and his son for a small antelope poaching incident about ten years ago...
