and no one came?

What if they gave a hunt, and no one came?

Me = bored.

Heelers = really bored.

I spent part of the morning in a meeting. A meeting with the Department of Transportation, no less.

And the meeting was more exciting than the afternoon.

Gist of the meeting?

When they resurface the highway next year, they're going to give me a full-size, honest to gosh pullout. No more sitting down in a ditch with the runoff and mud, wondering which camp trailer is going to tip over on me.

And we'll have a bona fide pulloff lane, too. No more standing in the middle of a busy highway to check hunters.

The bad news?

They don't think there's any way to run a check station whilst construction is going on. They agree it would not be a good idea to have 15-20 trucks of hunters all arriving at the check station at one time behind a pilot car. Only to have to wait to have their game checked, and then wait for another pilot car to get on into town. And yeah, paving will probably happen right in the middle of hunting seasons.

"People would complain."

No sh_t, Dick Tracy. And who's going to be standing there to hear those complaints? Not some admin from Cheyenne, I guarantee you.

So, next year may be the first year in three decades that I do not sit on that junction.

Although, if the contractor doesn't work weekends, they might be able to get me in there...

The next four hours were spent sitting on the exact point of discussion. For the opening of our late season for cow elk.

For exactly five trucks of hunters.

And one elk.

And one violation.

After that truck, we went home.

A shot of the tail end of last August's lunar eclipse:

Listening to: Winterpills: The Light Divides.

Still. Again.

And yeah, gonna buy it. Soon.
