first route This evening I learned that bees are not the only things attracted to bee plant. There were actually three hummingbirds out there in the middle of nowhere in the desert, driving each other away from the most favored clump of flowers. And I learned that after two months of mainly office work, it doesn't take too many drag races to tire out a pair of ten-year old heelers. A little after seven-thirty, the little maskless heeler came over to my side of the truck cab, stared at me, and then stared out the window. And collapsed sadly upon the seat. "Daaaamn. We're not gonna get fed on time." And yes, dinner was almost two hours late. Judging by the radio traffic, most of the wardens were checking in at home while we were still a half-hour out. 'cept for the fellow a little more than a hundred miles to the west, who'd managed to have two flat tires in one evening and was waiting for rescue to arrive with a spare. The heelers, however, were deep asleep almost immediately after filling their tummies. |
