they're done!

Sometime after four o'clock, I emailed the last of my eight annual reports up to the boss.

The reports that have, as they are every year, been nagging at my heart, mind and soul for something like six weeks.

The ones that were due a week ago...

The ones that I'm always told everybody else got done on time.

'Course, almost every year, at some meeting or another, you find out some folks were a month late with theirs. Or even later.

But the other two biologists that report to the same boss I do? Yeah, they gets theirs done on time. Early, in fact, every year. They just sit down and do them.

Just like the boss used to do.

Me, I let them steep and stew for weeks. Start on one, get snagged, and switch to another. By the time I'm done with that one, I've forgotten everything I was going to say on the first, and have to start over.

Literally.

And I'm probably too much of a perfectionist. Rewriting the same sentence four or five different ways. But at least the boss appreciates that. His email replies were, well, embarassingly complimentary. Words like "insightful", "extremely well written" and "Hell of a job."

Ooookay. Nice to hear. But not nearly so nice as knowing they are done!

Now, on to all the other tasks that have been set aside for those reports, and will also soon be overdue...
