twin satellites I remembered with twenty minutes to spare. And ten o'clock found us, the wife and I and the heeler sisters, out in the back yard. Heelers equipped with their headlights, of course. Wife spotted them first. Two bright lights racing up from the northwest. One following the other as if they were tethered together. The front, brighter light is the space shuttle Atlantis. Recently separated from the International Space Station, which is the trailing light. As described, they were fast. In no time they were almost straight overhead. I commented to the wife how odd it was to realize those lights have people in them, over 50 miles above us. Passing horizon to horizon in just three minutes' time. The two beacons quickly passed over the house, and I followed the wife and heelers, running to catch a final glimpse, and final picture, from the middle of the intersection. They'll be back tomorrow, just a little farther apart. Around twenty past ten o'clock for our part of the planet. |
