Всегда любов We got our first email from youngest son today. Short and brief, but the gist of it is, he got to Russia fine. Says he has good pictures of Red Square. As far as his host family, he did not end up with a family of nine in a tiny apartment that he was afraid of. To quote him, "it's not nearly as bad as I expected". We tried to tell him. And also to quote him, "English has invaded almost everything here." Apparently many signs are in both Russian and English, and "more people speak it than you would think". Heh. I suspect more people speak English than an American would think, since we as a rule are fairly limited in fluency in languages other than our own. I suspect a European would expect it. There's even English music on the airwaves. After lunch, I was looking through the small stack of music CDs he left on the dining room table. The albums he just had to run to Capitol City to buy last week, and add to his iPod library before this trip. There's a cd by a Russian artist. I find it ironic he may very well have had to haul those tunes halfway around the world, just so he could listen to Russian music in Russia. And I will close as our son did... Всегда любов |
