farewell to hahn's There really wasn't time to be nostalgic. Not 'til the end, anyway. Our last relocation flight for our ten radio-collared elk. The batteries in the elk's radios should be good for another nine to 15 months, but there's no money left to pay for monitoring flights. Well, actually, there's enough money for another year of flying, but our fiscal year has ended, and that unspent flight money will be re-allocated to higher priorities in the coming year's budget. None of it to follow elk around when we already know where they go. Craaaap. We didn't even have good light for our last interstate flight. Completely overcast, with light rain at the southern end. You know, down there in the "Green" state. So, I managed over 400 pictures in 90 minutes of flying (that's one picture every 10-15 seconds), but most of them are, well, crap. Taken without viewing, just aim the camera out a window and see what you get. Not much, most of the time. Blank blue skies, a plane wing or strut. Several shots of my lap because the camera's auto-focus took too long in the poor light, and apparently decided my knees were something it could focus on. And there was this: Probably my last chance at an aerial shot of Hahn's Peak. In that "Green" state, you know. |
