spring chores

A sunrise shot from March...

Just because it seems like I haven't posted one for a while.

Otherwise, not much to report. Still entering lek data into the computer.

Explaining to reporters how to spell my name. In the past three months we've gotten a new publisher and new editor (they claim those two events are not related, but I'm not so sure), and now all of a sudden nobody knows me over there any more.

Which is good in some ways...

Still rehashing last minute details for the 2008 (yes, 2008) hunting seasons.

Hunters calling with questions on where to apply for licenses for 2007. And always, always we end up with the same conclusions in our discussions...

If it's good hunting with good access, it's gonna be hard to get a license there.

If it's easy to get a license, then either the hunting's not so good, or access is difficult.

Sorry folks, there aren't any secret areas with great hunting, easy access, and a guaranteed license.

Speaking of which, I still need to decide where I want to hunt...

And hassling with the niggling little details for our pronghorn transect flights next week. Our expert has blue toothed two laser altimeters with two PDAs, but unfortunately the PDA coming to me on Friday doesn't recognize the laser altimeter coming my way next week, so we've got to reshuffle PDAs clear across the state.

Before next week.

For a break, I set the sod over the heeler Mom's grave. Tried to do this when we buried her, but wife and eldest son insisted he would do it when it got warmer.

It's been warmer for many weeks, now.

The heeler sisters helped. Each came up and made respectful sniffs of the bare earth.

They know who's down there. You can tell.

But in other news, the lilacs are going great guns. Filling our bedroom with their perfume.

Which is a good thing.
