first foal of spring The first foal of Spring. I usually see the first of these lanky things out in the desert during March, but this year we're almost through with April before I spot one. By the size of it, though, it was probably born in March. Still, there don't seem to be as many as usual. Winter may have been a little tougher out here in the desert than we figured. Which won't bode well for the pronghorn, when it comes time for them to fawn out. Curious creatures, these feral horses. Curious, as in they have a lot of curiosity. Want to get them in closer? Try laying down on the ground. They really don't know what to make of that. So they come closer to check you out. And if you want to get them really close, if maybe also a little agitated... Try waving one foot in the air. |
