mists on the divide - 1 Okay, this was originally going to be a long, witty narrative about yesterday's lek surveys. Ain't gonna happen. Just no time. So we should be able to get the pics up here, but you'll probably have to supply your own narrative. Woke late, an all too often occurance this year. With a full moon, that's even more of a problem, because the grouse have been strutting all night in the moonlight, and tend to leave early once the sun comes up. But we were still 25 miles out when the sun came up... and the moon set. But the lek of the morning was still another 30-35 miles off, well into the desert. So I wasn't surprised to find only a few cocks still styrutting, whilst their buddies were already wandering off for breakfast, like these two. And man, I hate morning traffic. Once we got past the traffic, the heelers finally got what they'd been dying for, for the past hour or so. A dragrace. It was good to see water running in the desert stream. A rarity, even if it only lasts a few days. On the other side of the crossing, we found the first of several sheep herder camps. The herder and his dogs just now heading out to check on his charges. To be continued... (maybe) |
