compiling & summarizing The past two days spent calculating and compiling our proposed hunting seasons for next fall, along with all the data and justifications. Right up to midnight, just a few minutes ago. Got 17 hours left before deadline, and I figure I'm about 70 percent done. Haven't decided how much sleep I can afford to take. But I'm through the most complicated part, where you have to have five windows open with five different pieces of software running. Generating tables of numbers in the first window, modifying them in the second and third, editing in the fourth, and then saving to .pdf in the last. Pain in the butt, but easier than the stage I'm currently working on, which calls for inputting (by hand), numbers from two pdf files into a third file, along with hand calculated averages from the printouts on my lap, and then saving the resultant file to yet another pdf. All because the process of turning pages is too complicated for some folks in Capitol City, and they want important data from the summary pages re-summarized on the third page. That third page is officially (I kid you not) called the ".30-30 Page" because that is the equipment you really want to use on that page. Really. If the Powers That Be accept our proposals, I estimate 2,220 pronghorn, 415 mule deer and 325 elk will die as a consequence. Filling someone's freezers this fall. And that's my job (this time of year. But as soon as this is done, it's strutting season!) Listening to: Agnes Milewski. |
