bad news, good news

Another five hours of driving for two hours of meeting. Ten of us there in the room.

Basically, one simple proposal for a simple change has stumbled itself into two much larger, previously undisclosed proposals that proponents were hoping to keep unrelated, but now they will not be.

Making the whole picture larger, more cumbersome.

And, probably, better. With maybe less impact on wildlife in the end. And some folks, who saw no reason to pay attention to anyone who opposed their proposals (like us), got their eyes opened when others in their agency, farther along with a similar project, start speaking about impending lawsuits coming their way. Lawsuits that they believe they are likely to lose, for well-grounded reasons.

Many of those reasons based on a document more than a quarter-century old, sitting on the table. A thick, pale blue volume I had some input into. All those hours and meetings so many years ago, so frustrating at the time...

May finally be bearing fruit.

And, maybe we aren't being unreasonable after all.

And maybe, just maybe, wild critters won't lose out on this one.

At least not so bad.

But seeing maps of the projects they had not yet disclosed until today... well, that was unnerving. And frightening.

Those impending lawsuits? They may not be our lawyers, but thank goodness for them, just the same.

The heeler sisters came along on the long drive. Their choice.

But I suspect, had they known they would have been in the truck for almost twelve straight hours, with only two brief pee breaks in the desert and three by the parking lot...

Well, they woulda stayed home.

A point the blind masked heeler made quite clear when she recognized the turns around the blocks near home, and promptly took to scolding me in my face.

I must say this about the office in regional town...

They've got a nice view.
