patterns on the land Here in our second and final year of this research project, on each flight to locate our radio-collared elk I am aware it will be a last, of some sort. The last flight over Aspen Alley in its fall foliage is a couple flights back. One of these flights will be the last into our southern neighbor state. One of these will have our last pass over the mountain range. The last return along the eastern slope. And, finally, one of them will be the last. Period. So each 70-80 minute flight is precious. If I'm not writing down numbers, or looking down for elk, I'm staring out windows. Frustrated because I can't look out both sides at the same time. Among the views I enjoy, and will miss, are the patterns of the landscape. Heightened in this latest flight by the rapidly melting snow from the recent storm. |
