wind stripped Seems to me this journal is quickly turning into a photo log, with not that much in the way of words. Today is no different. We flew looking for our radio-collared elk again this morning. My hopes for pretty pictures of the fall foliage like I took last year were pretty much shot (pun intended) when I headed in to the airport, and saw the dark wall of clouds hanging south of town. But no, the clouds melted away before us as we wended our way south. Poor light wasn't our problem. The pilot noticed it first, as we neared the Continental Divide just 17 miles from the airport... The colourful aspen leaves were mostly gone. Three days of steady, hard wind will do that. Even Aspen Alley, which the wife and I visited just four days ago, was largely stripped and bare. |
