nine minutes Six wing barrels up, nine to go. Less fun in the rain and mud. Pounding the second steel post into the ground for the last barrel, north of the new mancamp in the gas field, and I hear the not-so-distant rumble of thunder from the rapidly approaching storm to the west. Yes, I thought about lightning as I set up each of the other five barrels in the rain. But hearing the echoes of a lightning flash kinda brings it foremost to your mind. Seeing as how I'm standing here, getting wet, with this huge 15-pound hunk of steel postdriver in my hands. Using it to pound six-foot steel posts into the ground. Nothing like holding on to lightning bait on top of a lightning rod. Or using heavy guage steel wire to fasten a steel barrel to four lightning rods. Out in the middle of flat sagebrush. With a thunderstorm quickly rolling in. I log my work setting up barrels. Almost each and every barrel takes 11 to 13 minutes to get set up. Got this one up in nine. |
