first snow

There had been numerous delays, so it was after five o'clock before we turned off the highway to get to the first (and farthest) wing barrel of the afternoon. Number seven of 17. And as we crossed the divide (no, not the Continental Divide, that was a good 10 miles further south) out of the Sweetwater drainage, I spotted something on the left.

And backed up just to be sure. And gave the sisters a break as soon as it was confirmed.

Our first snow of the fall. Remnants of last Monday's 30cm of snowfall, hidden in a dark, shady gully.

Yes, we had felt falling snow flakes last week, but they never stuck. And others farther north or at higher elevations had been playing and cursing in snow for days. But this was our first snow.

Heelers enjoyed running in, and biting and digging in it. Especially since the truck thermometer said it was still 60 degrees out.
