telephones

Now that she's replaced her harddrive, Imp venai and I finally resumed our email conversation on the dawning days of the computer era (yes, I was there). And it brought to mind an incident I should share.

Just a couple years back, wife's godson (formerly known as our semi-adopted partial foster third son) was visiting with his brother.

Brother asked if he could call home.

"Sure."

And then he stood there, in the living room, staring at the telephone. For the longest time.

He had never used a rotary dial telephone before. Had no idea how to use it. Eventually, he tried putting his fingers in the holes and pushing, like it might be a touch screen.

Nope.

Finally took pity and showed him how to put your finger in the holes and spin them around.

We have since added touch phones to the office, bedroom and dining room, but the one in the living room is still the old rotary. May be for a while yet.
