trip to university

Well, youngest son is safely ensconced back at University.

Took two vehicles. And five trips up the elevator for all three of us. And an additional trip just for the TV. With foot races down the stairwell each trip. With him hitting each and every step, and me hitting every third. And the wife dropping back like we're idiots.

But he's in. Not unpacked, but in.

Not that he's there, though.

No, he's in Capitol City tonight with his two best buds. Waiting to deliver one to DIA first thing tomorrow morning. Then he'll race back to University Town to meet us (and our money) after lunch for book buying and annual Wal-Mart shelf depleting.

That was all supposed to take place today, but his friends arrived hours early, and all of a sudden we were off the agenda.

Okay. The friend flying out has completed his army training, and is headed for the California desert.

For acclimation.

Yeah. His training specialty is defusing IEDs (improvised explosive devices). Otherwise known as "roadside bombs".

Guess where he's going next.

You guys spend all the time together you want.

We can drive back to University Town to disperse our Russia-depleted wealth again tomorrow.

As we left our son and headed for dinner, I remembered we had failed to leave him cash and a check for any unexpected contingencies on the overnight two-city trip. So we turned around, and arranged to meet him at the front parking lot.

But before he could finish getting packed and down, his friends pulled up alongside us.

We were now officially double parked in a No Parking zone.

So the wife decides to speed things up by simply handing the check and cash to the trustworthy looking army soldier friend.

He looks at the wad of green bills, hastily dug out of the wife's billfold.

"He doesn't know how much money you're giving him, does he?" he asks.

With a smile...
