Busy evening.

Youngest son had a concert, essentially a repeat of their earlier jazz band gig from last week. This time they had the solo xylophone performance on stage, in front of the full crowd.

He was just as technically perfect as in the hallway last week, but I was right. The hallway performance was better. It had the magic.

Then it was off to the weekly youth group meeting at the Armory. With few in attendance, since it is also soccer season. But I took a quick peek at the rocks as I changed into uniform in the parking lot.

There, silhouetted against the setting sun, was yesterday morning's "mountain lion." The yellow-bellied marmot, out enjoying the last of the sun.

Went in and asked the wife if she wanted to see the "cougar." She knew who I meant, but everyone else came trotting out expecting to see a Felis concolor. And seemed disappointed when we pointed out the rock chuck.

But that marmot has a name now.

"Cougar."
